IQI has updated its Infrastructure Standard – Core and Context Guides to strengthen their practical application across different infrastructure systems and operating environments.

 

The updated materials provide a clearer common framework for determining Infrastructure Quality, while allowing the same Core requirements to be applied to different infrastructure types, jurisdictions, projects, and local conditions.

 

The Context Guides translate the Core into infrastructure-specific requirements and Quality Outcome Criteria, while the Reference Layer identifies applicable laws, regulations, engineering codes, technical standards, design bases, permits, contracts, procedures, and other jurisdiction- or project-specific sources.

 

This structure is intended to support implementation locally, across different U.S. jurisdictions, and worldwide, while maintaining a consistent approach to Infrastructure Quality.

The IQI - Infrastructure Quality Initiative — continues the development of its Core foundations and the application of the IQI framework to energy infrastructure.

 

The IQI platform now includes additional publications supporting the justification of the IQI Core and an expanded family of Context Guides for natural gas infrastructure.

These publications further examine the foundations of the IQI Core Standard and the role of Quality Factors and Quality Indicators in determining and evidencing the quality state of an infrastructure system.

 

Natural gas infrastructure

 

The IQI website now presents a topological view of the natural gas infrastructure chain, connecting major infrastructure segments with their corresponding IQI Context Guides.

 

Context Guides now available include:

  • Onshore Natural Gas Main Pipeline Transportation Infrastructure

The Context Guides apply the IQI Infrastructure Standard – Core to different natural gas infrastructure systems and operating contexts, establishing context-specific requirements and Quality Outcome Criteria for their Intended Functions and Intended Results, Boundaries and Interfaces, while using the applicable Reference Layer to identify jurisdiction- and project-specific requirements and sources.

 

Together, these publications continue the development of IQI from a general infrastructure-quality framework toward a connected family of infrastructure-specific applications.
